It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this? Naughty Dog reveal more about The Last of U
The developers are still being very tight lipped about this huge sequel, but they have revealed a bit(e) of information
Ever since Sony’s E3 conference we’ve been highly anticipating The Last of Us 2. Sadly the trailer didn’t give much more insight into what to expect for Ellie’s journey, leaving us all still in mystery. But the co-directors for the sequel, Kurt Margenau and Anthony Newman, recently sat down for an interview with GamesRadar and shed some more light on key details.
A driving part of the story will still be Ellie and her immunity. The directors confirmed that her tattoo is covering “the bite mark on her arm”. We’re bound to find out how Ellie reacted to Joel’s decision to save her, with the directors confirming that the sequel is “Ellie and Joel's' story from the first game.” This is not a different game based in the same world, we will be seeing the continuation of the relationship between Joel and Ellie. And as for Joel’s part in the narrative, the directors said that they’re “setting up almost a parallel narrative”, which may hint that Joel’s story could be different to Ellie’s.
As stated in the E3 trailer, the combat will be very different. Margenau and Newman didn’t reveal much, but did explain that they are “expanding on infected combat”. This could even suggest that the infected will be different, maybe more developed because of the time that has passed? Furthermore, the human enemies aren’t easy to hate, “there’s no black and white, right and wrong.”
It appears that Ellie (and maybe Joel) will be willing to go to extreme lengths in their journey. It seems likely that this will be to either keep Ellie’s secret safe, or to protect her from those who know. Either way, Ellie once more will be thrown into a dark world where the odds will be severely against her.
