New gameplay details revealed from a hands on with Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee

Demo versions of the latest Pokemon game have been made playable for a lucky few during this year’s E3. These have revealed a revamped Pokemon Blue and Red with a new gameplay style for catching the original 151 Pokemon.

Viridian Forest was made playable for the attendees of Nintendo’s showcase, and they noted how the area was re-textured to have much more impressive shadowing and environmental features. It obviously doesn’t use the Switch’s full power, but it enhances the original’s style in a much more enjoyable and colourful way. Sadly though, people have commented on how the forest felt small compared to what we’ve come to expect from modern Pokemon games; hopefully this will be addressed before its release date.

The biggest change obviously comes from the way you catch Pokemon. It’s the same as Pokemon Go in how you throw your Pokeball (using the Joy-Con). People have been annoyed about the exclusion of battling wild Pokemon to weaken them, but according to those who played the demo, all Pokemon in your party receive XP when you catch a wild Pokemon. Plus battling has not been completely removed, you can still battle other trainers, and even gym Leaders. Screenshots have already revealed Brock and how is Gym looks exactly the same.

The original Pokemon games were classics, and a remaster is certainly deserved. Just like how Fire Red and Leaf Green added a new area after Cinnabar Island’s Gym is defeated, hopefully Nintendo will add a similar new environment to this game.
