New features revealed for Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Despite being made by a different Square Enix studio, Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks pretty similar to the first two games within the trilogy. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, however. From tense cinematic experiences, to a more confident Lara, Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks like the type of send off we’d expect for the origin story of Croft.
As we expected before, the game takes a darker tone. Within the E3 trailer it looks as if Lara has accidentally unleashed something described as “the cleansing”. Something that will “alter the course of humanity”. We’ve seen elements of mythical mysterious within the two previous games, and it looks like this will be a key focus of the final instalment.
The gameplay seems fairly similar: stealth, shootouts and cinematic set-piece platforming. But it now looks as if Lara’s rope may be used more: perhaps indicating a more wide and open world for exploring. Nature, especially the wildlife, will also be a key feature in the game. Based on Lara’s past with fighting vicious animals, it’s good to see that return here.
Rise of the Tomb Raider presented a more confident and prepared Lara, and it looks as if this will continue into Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Finally Lara will “become the Tomb Raider.”
