Star Wars: Last Shot reveals why the Millennium Falcon is much cleaner in Solo: A Star Wars Story
You’ve never heard of the Millennium Falcon like this before, kid
The trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story prompted many questions and concerns. A lot of people (ourselves included) were worried about how different Han Solo was presented. One of the smaller, but more puzzling, complaints, was why why the beloved Millennium Falcon was so clean, when we know and love it as the “piece of junk” looking spaceship that’s “got it where it counts".
Well, Daniel José Older’s Star Wars: Last Shot gives a detailed explanation, from Solo’s point of view, of why the spaceship looks so different under his care. Han describes that when he won the ship from Lando it was “spotless, souped up” and “sparkling”. Solo wonders who could live in those conditions, and describes them as “unacceptable”.
Han got to work right away by “scuffing it up”, making it a place where “a regular person could kick back and enjoy themselves”, unlike Lando’s “immaculate cape museum”.
So not only does Lando want his dress sense to be perfect, but it appears he wants the Falcon to be like that too. Maybe it’s not quiet a “cape museum”, but it certainly looks much more pristine that we see in the original trilogy.
This also provides more detail on what to expect in Solo’s one-off movie: it seems very likely that we’ll see Han win the ship from Lando as Han hasn’t had the time to “scuff it up” yet.
