Tips and Tricks on how to tackle the Skeleton Forts in Sea of Thieves
Don’t give it a second fort; win first time with our advice!
Most Sea of Thieves players will have seen a skeleton skull in the sky by now. The more adventurous crews will have even investigated and attempted to defeat the skeleton fort. But only a few have been successful. The prize is massive: usually over 12,000 coins, but it comes with a huge risk and is difficult to pull off.
Our crew at TriForce Reviews have got some need-to-know advice, and a great tip on how to take on this challenging task. Firstly, the basics:
Cannonballs
This is pretty obvious. You’ll need at least 60 to take down the fort’s towers and any other approaching ships.
Plan an exit route
You’ll be surprised how quickly you go through your cannonballs, and then you’re left defenceless. Think about where your nearest Outpost is and try to position your ship for an easy getaway as you tackle the skeletons.
Have a good crew
In our Beta review we stated that your pirating experience can greatly differ depending on who is in your crew. Well that’s true for this too. Everyone needs to be working together, and will need their own role. You can’t all abandon the ship to fight; some will need to sacrifice themselves a few times in order to win the booty.
If you have all of the above, then you’re well placed to defeat the Skeleton Fort. So, here’s our top advice:
Use the gates to your advantage
Each fort has around 4 gates for you to enter. These also are the only way in which the skeletons can leave to chase you. Use this to help you. If you have 2 crew members manning the cannons, they can aim at these gates. If you use the other 2 crew members to run into the fort, attract the attention of the skeletons, then they can run away leading them into the oncoming cannon-fire. This easily disposes of the skeletons and is the safest option. Once the Captain is out work together to kill them.
There’s a lot of loot! So be sure to get in and out as quick as possible. You may even want to leave some of the less valuable items behind so that you can get out safely without another ship seeing you as easy prey.
Next time you see a skull in the sky,
Follow the wind and set those sails high!
