Snoke’s origins confirmed in The Last Jedi novelization

For whatever reason, The Last Jedi movie decided to not go into detail about who Snoke is or how he came to power. Many of us had already assumed that Snoke had a role to play in the Empire’s retreat to the Unknown Regions, and this was confirmed in Jason Fry’s novel.

“Snoke had shepherded the First Order through its years in the galactic wilds, transforming a band of Imperial refugees into a weapon forged to reclaim the galaxy.”

Later in the novel Snoke even thinks back to past leaders such as Rae Sloane and Gallius Rax, and comments on their inability to lead the First Order.

It’s unclear why Rian Johnson would not include this in the movie, or why so little detail was provided on Snoke for that matter. But at least the novel can clarify this pretty important piece of information.

Now if only Rey’s ability to use the Force was addressed in the movies…
