Two new canon Han Solo books announced
Lukes like Solo: A Star Wars Story is going to have company
It’s not rare for the more recent Star Wars movies to have novels published around their release dates. Luckily Solo: A Star Wars Story will be no different with the release of Last Shot and Most Wanted. Yup, that’s right: two of them. Now this is getting out of hand…
Han has been depicted in a few canon books, perhaps most notably in the Aftermath trilogy and Bloodline. But in both new novels our favourite scoundrel will take his place as the rightful protagonist.
Last Shot
Much like how the fantastic Lost Stars followed the events of the original trilogy, but from a different perspective, Last Shot will do the same. It will also focus on events before A New Hope took place, and even after the battle on Endor. Sadly not much is known yet about the premise of the plot before A New Hope. What is clear though is that the Millennium Falcon will be present, with Lando and Han (at different times) piloting the famous ship towards some shady business.
More is known about the events after The Return of the Jedi. At first Han is trying to adapt to his new family life with Leia and Ben (which we know from Bloodline will not go too well) until Lando reappears, who needs Solo’s help. Turns out that Lando is being hunted down by a feared criminal due to a pilot of the Millennium Falcon cheating the criminal out of something. But the pilot was not actually Lando, it was Han…
Last Shot has a great premise which will hopefully relate to it being a great read. It’ll be interesting if they mention any of the characters from the original trilogy, such as Vader or Luke, and how they represent the family dynamic between the parents and Ben.
Last Shot will be released on April 17th.
Most Wanted
Set before the original trilogy, and even before the new Han Solo movie, Most Wanted focuses on the relationship between Han and Qi’ra. Qi’ra looks to be one of the more compelling parts to Solo: A Star Wars Story and hopefully her character will be even more fleshed out in this novel too.
According to the blurb, both characters have little in common apart from having nothing. They both accept the chance to prove themselves in the criminal world of Corellia, but are unaware that they both signed up to the same crime. Everything falls apart and together they are on the run from a criminal underworld and the Empire itself. Looks like we’ll be able to see the relationship between Qi’ra and Han fully bloom before the events of the movie take place.
Most Wanted will be released on May 25th.
Last Shot will be released long before Solo: A Star Wars Story is released (on the 24th of May), but it’s weird that Most Wanted will not come out before. You’d think that Qi’ra’s backstory should be fully fleshed out before the movie releases, but perhaps there is a surprise in store with this character?
