I hope you don’t mind, that we made a list of the best romances in gaming: and this one’s for you…an

Games are typically not known for their love stories. But over the last decade or so gaming has become much more sophisticated, and stories more intricate: leading to love being a familiar aspect of many gaming plots. After all, love is one of the most written about themes of them all. So in order to celebrate Valentines Day in the best way possible connect with your player 2 and settle down to read our look at the most famous, unique and moving love stories in all of gaming.

Mario and Peach in Super Mario

It’s perhaps the most iconic love story in all of gaming. We don’t get much insight into their relationship (if there actually is one) but we all know that Mario will always be prepared to rescue Peach from Bowser. Even if Super Mario: Odyssey’s Peach did have more attitude and was less than thankful towards Mario after she was saved…

Kafei and Anju in Majora’s Mask

Just days before their wedding Kafei was met with a terrible fate when the Skull Kid transformed him into a child. With the help of the three-day mechanic in Majora’s Mask Link is able to reunite the couple on the day of the Carnival. Sadly we never see the wedding, but do see Anju in her wedding dress in the final credits. It’s a mystery if they ever got married, but it’s a tragic love story that can’t be forgotten easily.

Chloe and Rachel in Life is Strange: Before the Storm

The beauty of Life is Strange comes from the decisions it gives the characters, and how these relate to the adolescent characters within the game. This relationship is not thrown in your face, and can be a friendship if you make those choices, but the subtleties are always there. In this prequel to Life is Strange we see just how close Rachel and Chloe become, sometimes bridging on more, but due to their uncertainty and awkwardness we’re never sure. Hopefully Life is Strange 2 can add to this somehow.

Jimmy and Zoe in Bully

Bully caused a lot of controversy when it was released: Rockstar making a game based in a school? Turns out that it was much tamer than Grand Theft Auto, but it’s still a great game. As Jimmy rises up through the cliques in school he also dates a variety of different girls, with Zoe the Punk girl being his final love interest. Perhaps Bullworth Academy wasn’t all bad for Jimmy…

Evie Fry and Henry Green in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Assassin’s Creed’s voyage to Victorian London will be best remembered for the fantastic duo of the Fry twins. But throughout the game we also see a bond grow between Henry and Evie. Despite never actually seeing any feelings shared, Henry doesn’t hide his admiration for Evie, who obviously feels something back, but doesn’t want to put anything in the way of her work.

Geralt and Yennefer…and Triss…and Kiera…Shani…and Madame Sasha…and Jutta an Dimun…and, well you get the idea in The Witcher 3

Yup, the white haired monster hunter named Geralt is not exactly a one woman man…unless you make him be of course. The Witcher is known for some pretty steamy scenes, but it also encourages the player to build up to these moments. Perhaps they’re not romantic in the typical sense, but they involve a type of love, right?
