Sony reveal a new and powerful trailer for The Last of Us 2
Following on from the incredible The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s sequel looks to be an intense journey which follows Ellie dealing with teenage angst, along with violent and dangerous experiences. Ellie is cynical, confused, lost, but more confident than ever.
Ellie has clearly grown a lot from when we last saw her as a 14 year old. She’s in a playful relationship with a new character, a girl who’s flirtatious and coy. “Every guy in this room is staring at you right now.” The bond between Joel (who is mysteriously not present) and Ellie was beautifully crafted, and it looks like Ellie will again be involved in deep and puzzling relationships. “They should be terrified of you” implies that Ellie is not new to relationships and that she has a troubled history, but it also perfectly relates to her new vicious streak.
After her first kill in the trailer, Ellie simply states “fucker”. Classic Ellie. But she’s now independent, confident in stealth and 1 to 1 combat. Ammo is still shown to be sparse, meaning Ellie has to hide and choose her moments wisely to strike. No infected were present, or even mentioned, but the trailer revealed a group that are perhaps more frightening. Amongst hanging dead bodies Ellie witnesses a man be hung and stabbed in a ritual-like manner by a strange group. Ellie seems content in killing these group members, suggesting that Ellie has a history with them.
The Last of Us 2 looks like classic Ellie combined with new fragile emotions, but confident and calculated aggression.
