From the makers of Life is Strange comes The Adventures of Captain Spirit

“They can’t tell stories like you can”

In a world full of superhero movies and games, Square Enix have introduced a new type of hero: one who is young, innocent, normal in body, but incredible in imagination. The Life is Strange team have showcased Chris, a 10 year old boy who dreams of being a superhero, and invite us into his ordinary, and extraordinary, life.

The E3 trailer presents a loving bond between young Chris and his father, who both mourn the loss of Chris’ mother. Chris has built up a world of imagination, a world full of wonderful stories that will make everyone nostalgic for their childhood innocence. Unlike games such as God of War 4 and The Last of Us, which have excelled at creating a bond between a child and parent figure, it looks as if this duo won’t be facing anything too tough, but living through Chris’ vivid imagination.

Interestingly it will be free to play from June the 26th. There’s no information yet on whether this will be a one-off game or a series, but the developers have noted that it “is the first step towards showing you the true potential of Life is Strange, and the possibilities of a diverse universe filled with interesting characters and stories to tell.” Despite being a contained and separate narrative to the main franchise, it will “give you glimpse into Life is Strange 2’s brand-new story.”

After the emotional send off to Chloe and Max, we’re ready to explore a new set of characters and a new type of story. After all, as the Life is Strange team state, the franchise is built on an “entire universe of storytelling founded upon relatable characters facing real world issues”. We expect to see young Chris facing his sense of loss through his powerful and emotive imagination. It should be just as compelling as previous Life is Strange games.
