Who are the Inquisitorius? Who is the Grand Inquisitor? We take a deeper look into the villains of t

Following on from the brilliant Star Wars Clone Wars series, Rebels fills some of the gaps from Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope. One of the aspects that made the Clone Wars so great was the development of the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan, especially seeing Anakin struggle with his emotions and loyalties. Arguably one of the most intriguing additions to the Rebels series has been the inclusion of the Inquisitorius, but very little background information was given about them. Until they were heavily featured in the Darth Vader Comic Book series, that is.

The Inquisitorius are a group of former Jedi who felt alienated from the order due to not being awarded the role in the Order they felt they deserved (Anakin knows that feeling all too well…) Darth Sidious explained to Darth Vader he had planned forming this group for a long time, but that they needed training from Vader himself.

The Grand Inquisitor is introduced in a pretty stunning way in the comic: in a duel against Vader in the Jedi Temple. Vader was not informed of Palpatine’s plan and sought to kill the Inquisitor, who is beaten rather easily by the Sith Lord. Palpatine then intervenes and explains to Vader who the Grand Inquisitor is.

Despite being beaten fairly easily by Vader, the Grand Inquisitor is the strongest of the Inquisitorius, who was once a guard in the Jedi Temple. From issue 4 onwards Vader trains this team of former Jedi, who all aim to kill the remaining Jedi who escaped The Purge.
